OnlyFans Content Creators ~ Collaborative-Action Ethnography

Sophia Guthrie, a graduate student within the anthropology department at San Diego State University, is conducting a research study to better understand the dynamic identities & experiences of OnlyFans Content Creators (OFCC) under the supervision of Dr, Erika Robb Larkins. The goal of this research is to identify some of the larger social/structural barriers [inequalities] OFCC encounter while operating on this online platform as well as outline how these individuals uniquely negotiate/overcome them. You are being asked to participate in this research project because I/we feel that your experience as an OnlyFans Content Creator (or as a parent, student, citizen, POC, mentor, artist, or other unique aspects of your individual identity) can contribute much to our understanding and knowledge of the intersectional [ie. diverse & overlapping] realities defining the lived-history of OnlyFans. The information you provide may potentially serve as the foundation for future digital grassroots activism and associated resistance movements aimed at dissolving underlying structural inequalities & systemic social/economic/political/cultural injustices.

We invite all those who are currently or have previously created content for OnlyFans to participant in this research project.

  • You must be at least 18 years old to take this survey/participate in this interview.

Your participation in this research is entirely voluntary. It is your choice whether to participate or not. If you choose not to participate in this project, it will not impact your standing/relationship with San Diego State University or the OnlyFans community.

If you choose to participate in this research, you will not be asked to disclose any identifying information (ie. legal name, address, personal email address, phone number, ext.). Any personal details/antidotes mentioned in online survey submissions, virtual interviews, and/or virtual community discussions, which may potentially compromise participants’ anonymity, will be altered in disseminated (shared) materials. Participates also have the right to withdraw from this research at any time. Additionally, participants have the right to request that their previously disclosed personal information be removed from any research records.

The research will take approximately 4-6 months to complete. All participating members of the OFCC community will be able to access the finalized outline/summary of research results (which will include commonly-identified barriers & resistance strategies) once the study is officially concluded.

OnlyFans Content Creators are invited to participate in any of the following research activities:

  1. Online Survey

~ The intended purpose of this online survey is to gain a preliminary, broad understanding of participants’ unique demographics as well as their physical, mental, emotional, sexual, financial, psychological, and social wellbeing as OnlyFans Content Creators.

  1. Virtual Interviews

~ The intended purpose of a virtual interview is to gain specific insight into an individual OF Content Creator's lived-history, dynamic identity, & unique narrative relating to their role on the OnlyFans platform.

  1. Community Discussions (Virtual Focus Group)

~The intended purpose of the virtual community focus group is to offer an unstructured virtual space where participating OnlyFans Content Creators can collaborate with researchers as well as other members of their community to collectively identify key issues & offer ideas for potential solutions.
