ABOUT
THE RESEARCH PROJECT
OnlyFans is officially marketed as an 18+ platform that allows creators to monetize their media content. Rising in popularity and fame during the COVID-19 pandemic, OnlyFans has grown from a small startup company into a billion-dollar business. Yet, unlike other billion-dollar social media companies, OnlyFans is as stigmatized as it is iconic.
The diverse community of content creators on OnlyFans has revolutionized the online user-based media market while simultaneously battling overwhelming adversity imposed by new unfair policies & existing equitable social systems.
The goal of this collaborative-action research project is to better understand the challenges faced by OnlyFans Content Creators (OFCC) and collectively build activist-based resistance strategies to empower this resilient online community.
